Holy Communion, Sacrifice or Sacrament?

images(5)The Lord Jesus commanded His church to do two sacraments. Which one is the Baptism and the second is the Lord’s Supper.
What the will of God from the understanding of the Lord’s Supper. Historical story that happened in the past, making us better understand what happened and why it happened. Starting in 1555 until 1558 when Queen Mary ruled England. 288 Protestants burned reform. Among them there is one archbishop, four bishops, 21 priests, 55 women and 4 children. Why did queen Mary Catholic burn them? The main reason is that different beliefs about the notion of the Lord’s Supper.

These are the words of John Charles Ryle to explain : doctrine / Catholic doctrine in question is whether the body and blood of the Lord Jesus really existed in the consecrated bread and wine in Holy Communion?
Whether or not they believe that the body and blood of the Lord Jesus really literally, materially, locally there in the form of bread and wine after the words of consecration are spoken. Whether or not they believe that the body of Christ, which was born of the Virgin Mary, it is on the table so the words that come out of the mouth of the ordination of priests / priest.
Whether they believe it or not. That is the question. And if they do not believe and admit it, they were killed by burning .

In telling about the people who were killed who do not believe that the true body of Christ is in the bread and wine, to demonstrate that at some time ago baptism and holy communion is so important to anyone willing to give his life for it. And some are willing to kill people because of it.

Regarding Holy Communion, the problem is actually on theology, but there is also a political problem. Is Britain the country it would be a Catholic or a Protestant country. Both fought against each other. So when a Catholic power, every attack on the Roman Catholic doctrine of the same as an attack against the country. And the most serious attack is a denial of Catholic Masses.

The point of the Mass is that the body of Christ as a true embodiment, a material being in the form of bread and wine. It needs to be according to the Catholic religion because the word ordination of priest / priest began running a sacrifice again is very important to the body. This is not approved by the Protestant Reformation. They believe that it weakens the gospel of Christ where He was crucified once for all, for our sins.

Protestant beliefs described Bishop J.C. Ryle like this : Imagine the Supper a sacrifice and not a sacrament / ordinance … It destroys the doctrine of Christ’s finished work at the time he was crucified. Sacrifices that need to be repeated many times it is not perfect and complete.

Iberani 9:23-28 describes the magnitude of the sacrifice of Christ, verse 25, “He is not repeatedly offered himself” and verse 28, “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of his people.” Then there was another priest worthy sacrifice to God apart from Christ, the true glory of the high priest was seized. And work of Christ as High Priest has also been destroyed, also the Lord Jesus did not become the last Adam with the body and nature are the same as ours.

Christians generally believe that Jesus commanded them to repeat this banquet to commemorate this event ( ” … do this in remembrance of Me ! ” – 1 Cor . 11:24, 25 ). However, various streams of the Christian Church gives different sense also to this sacrament. The Roman Catholic Church emphasized the Lord’s Supper as a means of salvation for the people. Protestant churches are generally more emphasized supper as a memorial of the death and sacrifice of Jesus for mankind.

More in when the holy communion, the Catholic Church to share the body of Christ under the appearance of bread called COMMUNION. Meaning refers to the reception of communion is the people’s participation in God’s redemptive work events that were presented at the time of the Eucharistic Prayer sung by the priest. Host Holy Communion or that people will accept and incorporate connect people into God’s redemptive work.

In 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 where Paul gives us the teachings he received from the Lord : For what I also delivered to you, have I received from the Lord, that the Lord Jesus on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, he broke it and said : this is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me! Likewise also He took the cup, after eating, then said : This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood, Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me . For as often as ye eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Four reasons why “This is my body” does not mean the body of the Lord Jesus manifested within or below the bread is ordained a priest / priest. After that there are three clear understanding of the words “This is my body” and “This is my blood.”

1. Reasonable understanding : namely Preview
The most reasonable understanding when someone takes something and say that it symbolizes a person’s body is the body of the man, instead of it being a man’s body. Example, if we showed a picture of our family and we say “That’s my family”, everyone understands that the photo was not completely transformed directly into our families physically, it’s just a picture alone.
Or we see the star of the movie “Passion of Christ” and we say oh it was the Lord Jesus or John or Mary. We all know they are just actors depicting the reality of what happened 2000 years ago. It is the sense of the words most reasonable. This is the meaning of this symbolizes my body is my body.

2. Same sense between bread/body and cup/New Testament.
If the words “This ( ie bread ) is my body” means the bread is now into my body, directly sense the same should be referred to the cup. Verse 25 He said : “This cup is the new covenant sealed by my blood.” This does not mean that the cup is now a treaty. All of us understand that the emphasis of the cup is its content. And wine that symbolizes the blood of the Lord Jesus that ensures the blessing of the covenant.

3. The Lord Jesus himself explained he spoke figuratively.
John 6:63 explains that the bread in the Lord’s Supper is not really the body of Christ. People who believe that the true body of Christ is in the bread was basing it on the verses of John 6:48-63.
In these verses the Lord Jesus began to give an idea of the meaning of the Lord’s Supper when He said, “I am the bread of life” And when He had talked about that we have to eat the bread. He says in verse 51, ”I am the living bread which came down from heaven, If people eat of this bread, he will live forever, and the bread that I give is my flesh, which I give for the life of the world.”

Sounds very surprising and in verse 52 the Jews asked how he could give his flesh to eat. Jesus answered in verse 53, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, ye would not have such life in you.”
Jesus knew that the disciples do not understand what he said. Verse 60: “After hearing it, many of the disciples of Jesus who said, “This saying is hard, who can hear it?”

So Jesus gave them a key notion in verse 63 that they may not like everyone else misunderstood in the synagogue. “It is the Spirit who gives life, the flesh is useless. The words are spoken to you are spirit and life.”
Jesus explained, and do not worry about the edible meat and drink blood. It’s just a figure of speech only. I mean spiritual acts, not physical. So John 6:63 protect his students from any sense, so this paragraph will protect us from the same misunderstanding.

4. The Lord Jesus said that eating and drinking are spiritual acts ( John 6:35)
Now we look at John 6:35 which gave positive pergertian about eating and drinking of Christ. The Lord Jesus said, “I am the bread of life, he who comes to Me, he will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me, he will never be thirsty again.” Here he gave himself to welcome us to eat and drink. Christ will quench our thirst and hunger for spiritual things.

And what it means to eat and drink? It is coming and trust. “Whoever comes to Me, he will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me, he will never be thirsty again.” In other words, by eating and drinking the soul is a spiritual act of approaching God and accept Jesus, believe in Him and all the hunger and His soul thirst satisfied.

Here are three senses of the words of the Lord Jesus .

1. proclamation
1 Corinthians 11:26 says,” For as often as ye eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim , proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” “This is my body” means, with the symbol of my body which is broken you proclaim the death me for sinners until I get back. You preach the gospel. Proclaimed the bread and the cup of His saving death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus as the words “until he comes” means that he is risen.

2. warning
1 Corinthians 11:24,25 says, “Do this in remembrance of me” “This is my body” means, let the epitome of my body and my blood alerting us to Christ. With the proclamation at the time of the Lord’s Supper, we should remember the Lord Jesus. He said at the time we sit here in church, I remember when Judas betrayed, and I already know all of it. I will remember when I am grateful to God the Father who has set all of it. Do you remember the bread was broken as I willingly give my body solved. Do you remember that my blood poured out for you so that you live by the death of me.
Do you remember the agony I was to give you all the blessings of the New Testament. Do you remember the covenant I am in Mark 14:25 that I will drink the new vine in the kingdom of God. Let all the mementos of the Lord Jesus, full of love and strength, meet your soul at the time of the Lord’s Supper. From here we can see the third sense of “This is my body.”

3. Celebrating the Faith
John 6:35, “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me, he will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me, he will never be thirsty again.” “This is my body” means the time you eat this bread and drink this cup, come to Jesus and trust in Him.
That is, when you do this , believe in Jesus that He might be the food and drink that sustains the spiritual life. So that warnings of death and resurrection in order to raise your faith with God’s communication becomes more tightly.
“This is my body” and “This is my blood” means is this spiritual food, foods that should be eaten in faith.
Give your soul to the spiritual food of everything that God provided for you with his body and his blood.
This is the meaning of faith , a faith that satisfied of everything that God has given us through the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ has given us the Holy Communion so that He alone can give us spiritual food to us through the warning.
