The Law of God

Part of the way a living sacrifice to God practically described in the Book of Romans 13. We have learned how to serve God with our spiritual gifts and how we should live like in the Book of Romans 12. In Romans 13 we are taught obedience to the government and how we can love our neighbor.

Romans 13:9-10, said: “For the commandments, Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet, and any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself! Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”

Word of God not only gave us the commandments, the word also gives us examples that we as humans can understand and remember what God wants us to do. So after the previous verse we learn that love fulfills the law, the apostle Paul began to give us a variety of illustrations. He cites four law directly from the Ten Commandments and the laws of Leviticus.
Paul begins by saying that the love of God do not commit adultery, when we love God we should not love something else with the same love. When we pollute ourselves with loving money or power, we ignore the sanctity of the love of God.

Let us not commit adultery with others if we truly love God. If we love God we should not do something that is not morally right. Adultery was not coming from love rather than lust.
And the situation is the same as stealing and killing. This is contrary to the nature of love. Love never steal or kill. Love gave voluntarily and always build another one and not drop anyone.
Love is not desire, you do not covet. Deuteronomy 5:21 says, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, and do not desire his house, or his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
– The first symptom is the nature of desire when we always want more than what we already have more than enough.
– The second symptom is the nature to covet is the willingness to get something that we are not entitled to have.
– The third symptom is the nature of desire is that we take advantage of people to get it.
– The fourth Symptom is the nature of desire is that we always want to get something for ourselves and do not ever want to share what we have with others.

There is a Jewish story about a poor man who was given three wishes. But there is a condition, which is whatever you want will be granted, but will be given the same neighbor twice.
First he wanted a beautiful wife and he got it, but the neighbors can two beautiful wives. Both he wants a castle and he got it, but the neighbor received two palaces. So full of envy in his request that he ask for a third blind in one eye and did it happen, and neighbors became blind in both eyes.
Envy is the opposite of love. Love always satisfied with what has been given to us from God, love always rely and trust in the providence of God. And you are not in touch with any crime. 1 Corinthians 13:6 says,” He does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth.”
Properties covet other people invisible from the outside, and when we begin to covet the property of others is often no one knows, but God knows. And when we want something, we are basically saying that God is not fair, God does not give us the same thing as that given to others.

The important thing we need to realize we are at the end of life: there is nothing that can be taken. And how to measure the success or failure of our lives is what we have when we die. In Matthew 6:20 Jesus says, “But for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
All sin comes from our hearts, Jesus said in Matthew 15:19, ” For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, and blasphemies.” But think of sin or feel angry or have a mind of hate alone is by itself is a sin.
Jesus explained that before we sin, our minds are blaming us before sin was. Matthew 5:27-28 says, “You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

If we truly love God, we should not be afraid to hear the commands. Because if we truly love God, and truly love your neighbor as yourself, we will automatically driven Holy Spirit to follow these laws. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus explained that our neighbor is anyone that has to do with us, that is the place we work, the people who often play with us, the people who sit next to us, in the church and also the people that we met in the shops.

Loving your neighbor does not require a high view of themselves. This fact requires a high view of other people. Paul says in Philippians 2:3-4, “by not seeking their own interests or the praise futile. Instead let the humble man considers others better than himself, and let every man take notice only its own interests, but the interests of others as well.
Paul’s point is if the true power of God’s love in our hearts, the love of God that will protect us from the divine sin and shows us automatically to the truth. Christians obey God not because they fear the consequences of sin, but because they love God and He has given them of His love so that they can love their neighbors.

There are some Christians who from the outside seem high moral life because they want to be accepted him based on their good behavior. However, without the faith of the heart, all of it’s useless because God is more concerned with the heart.
Isaiah 29:13 says, ” And the Lord said : “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts far from Me, and its worship of me is a human commandment learned by rote.”

We want to please who? Do we want to give a good impression to the people who know us or our heart’s desire is to love God with a sincere heart ? Hearts wherever we go, God knew well.
God’s Word is full of promises of blessings and gifts for those who believe, although it does not always come true according to our wishes or needs of our flesh pleasant. But such blessings and even then not a good reason to obey and love God. Christians resist evil and do good just because there is love of God in the hearts of those who encourage them to do so. Christians mature in the end it will do what God wants.

Live according to the law and live by love is not separate, even they can not be separated. God’s law can not be obeyed if we do not have love. Paul says love is the fulfilling of the law.
Western culture has experienced a great loss of confidence in the law and religion, because they have been separated from each other. When we distance ourselves from the religious concept of authority or the concept of the existence of God, we can not understand the existence of absolute truth.
And living is the concept of relativism , that all depends on the circumstances, that is an ever-changing basis of which resulted in no foundation for a system of laws or a moral stance . Only the truth of God is a solid foundation that can sustain the moral and legal stance. Regulations without an absolute foundation is regulation without authority, and can only be authoritative by force.

Jesus explains it in Matthew 5:17-19, “Think not that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. Because I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall not pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the commandments is the smallest, and teaches it to others, he will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but those who do and teach all the commandments of the law, he will occupy high place in the kingdom of heaven.”

Warning Jesus when He began with verse 17, ‘Do not think’ shows that people misunderstood his teachings. Because religious teachers have added many human traditions, they think Jesus eliminate the law because he does not follow these traditions. The Rabbis have created traditions that are actually more easily adhered to the laws of the Torah, which is in the environment of human abilities, which can be done alone by the ability and strength alone. However, this system into a system of self- righteousness, and exalt God humbled standard they consider is goodness itself.

Jesus removes all traditions such as washing tradition, special tithing, Sabbath commemorates an extreme way, people think that Jesus was toppled by the law of God. But Jesus is the desire to actually teach them the law and explain to them that it’s all just a tradition frills man who does not need to be.
He was saying is that there is something that is absolute eternal law of a sovereign God. God has set His law is absolute and eternal and has been told to man. And as the Son of God, Jesus stated that He did not come to teach and pass nothing contrary to the law, but He came to fulfill entirely.

We always hear that now the situation has changed and the Word of God is no longer valid today. In fact the truth is the opposite. The Bible always influential because it is the Word of God is perfect and infallible. From the outside it seems the world has changed a lot, but human nature and human sin and rebellion remains the same and has not changed at all. His character is just as sinful as it used to. Thief stealing in Bible times the same as it is now. Maybe he is more clever thief now, but his heart the same as before.
And apply the concept of love is still the same as before. Jesus identifies himself with the Pharisees or the Romans or by Herod; She even by way of an open and lovingly identifies himself with those who are disposed, the sick, the sinners and in need of a variety of help.
Jesus proclaimed the grace and mercy. All other rabbis discuss outside requirements, just him talking about matters of the heart. They exalt themselves above other people and they want to be served, while Jesus humbled Himself to others and be their servant.

Jesus fulfill the law by His teachings, which the Old Testament is filled with more explanation. Jesus fulfill the law to mean more depth. Jesus explains the original meaning of the law as something that is always associated with the heart and not the external behavior.
Jesus fulfilled the law by fulfilling all requirements. In his life he runs every piece of law, no one is able to do it and no one will be able to do that. His righteousness is perfect and he has never broken the smallest part of the law. He is the perfect example of the truth.
Jesus fulfill the law not only to teach fully and completely not only to fulfill. He himself was fully legal. Jesus as God is the divine truth. What He said and what He did reflect who he used to be, now and for ever.

Sermon on the Mount, He taught what is often called the ‘Law of gold’ in Matthew 7:12, “All things which ye would that men do unto you , do the same to them. That’s what all the law and the prophets.”
God’s perfect love best reflected in his children when they treat others as they want to be treated well. And how we treat others is not dependent on the way they usually treat us or how we think they will treat us but the way we want to be treated.
There is a change in which Jesus gives us this golden commands that had not been there. The basic principle is always recommended before negatively. Confucius taught, “Do not treat others, if you yourself do not want to be treated like that.” Rabbi Hillel said, “What you hated yourself, you do not do to others.” Greek philosopher named Epictetus said, “The suffering you avoid, do you give to others.”

All these statements are only concerned with themselves and not an expression of love. Negative forms of these rules is not gold, because all of this is not motivated by love but fear and self-preservation motivated and based on the fun and comfort of alone. Only the Spirit of Christ alone can give us the power to be more concerned with other people, and to love as He loves us. John 13:34 says, “a new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”
James 2:8 named “law” when he was talking about loving thy neighbor. “However, if you fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture : “You shall love your neighbor as yourself, “you are doing well.” So you meet both of the law, namely gold and the main legal orders.
