Tower of Babel
“And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth”. (Genesis 11:3-4).
The city of Babylon is a false imitation of God, Abraham was called out of town to fake it to look not an earthly city, but a city designed and built by God (Hebrews 11:10). Similarly, we as descendants of Abraham in the call to find the city of God, the true church, “the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven, prepared as a bride (Revelation 21:2).
When the Holy Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost, the whole of heaven and earth are full of cheer, “look at the dwelling of God is in the midst of men” (Revelation 21:3). The true Church, as the residence of the presence of God, has come.
‘Babel’ is the name of one of the important cities founded by Nimrod in the land of Sinar (Sumer), ancient Babylon. Babel called together Erekh of Agreement (Genesis 10:10). According to tradition the city was founded by the Babylonian god Marduk, and destroyed by Sargon ± 2350 BC when he took the land from which to establish a new capital, Agade.
The history of urban development with a high tower, told in Genesis 11:1-11. There, the name of Babel (Hebrew בָּבֶל – BABEL) described in popular etymology, based on the root of the Hebrew word that is similar בָּלַל – Balal, as ‘chaos’ or ‘mixing’. Thus Babylon became synonymous with chaos caused by differences in language, which is part of God’s judgment upon real human conceit that development.
Babylon is the vision of the city, but the vision is driven by the human spirit. Perhaps this vision of unity in external matters, but a vision of the city as well as outreach strategies, which internally are not in accordance with God’s will, then it will not go well. They said: “Let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let us find a name, lest we be scattered throughout the earth” (Genesis 11:4).
In sharp contrast with what Jesus says in Matthew 28:19-20, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you . And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of time. ”
The Babylonians had a unity of purpose, but without sustained by a spirit of unity in the Lord. In fact they would move from tolerance of individual differences forming collaborations with fleshly union without involving God in their goals, then God himself down disrupt their plans. They just want to build a unity government with the secular leadership that does not include a single God, where there is self-interest, pride and arrogance of man.
Leaders from the big city of Babylon was Nimrod, Genesis 10: 6-12 tells us: “The descendants of Ham are Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. Descendants Kush is Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raema and Sabtekha; children Raema is Sheba and Dedan. Cush begat Nimrod; he was the first one who came to power on earth he was a mighty hunter before the Lord, because it is saying: “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.”At first his kingdom consisted of Babylon, Erekh, and the Agreement, all of them in the land of Shinar. From the land he went to Assyria, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah and Resen between Nineveh and Lost: it is the great city”.
Nimrod was the first power in the earth, verse 9 says, too, he was a mighty hunter before the Lord, because it is saying: “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” A fact that he was previously in use extraordinary that God could be a great leader and master mighty big cities there, but the desire of the flesh to seek glory themselves with the establishment of the tower of Babel, and pride, and the pride of his life to end his relationship with God.
If we compare with the state of the devil, who initially said in Isaiah 14:1-32 and Ezekiel 28:1-26. From these verses were interpreted to mean that Satan was originally an angel of high position, very noble and very good / beautiful, and created perfect, however because of its glory, pride and envy arose in his heart so he demands only worship worthy given to God is given to him as well. So because of the sin he fell and position as well as his power was taken by God. Then he became the enemy of God and man. (Colossians 1:16, 1 Timothy 3:6, 2 Peter 2:4, Jude 1:6,9).
The reason for the drop was due to pride and self will to exceed and steal the glory of God.
