The Purpose of Christ’s Death
In 2 Corinthians 5:15 says that the purpose of Christ’s death was: “Christ died for all men, that they who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died and was resurrected for them ‘.
Talking about the dead and risen Jesus, not just a historical fact, but it is an experience of faith that Paul’s experience and that then he taught his congregation.
So, there are three things that the purpose of:
1). So that they ‘live’
The meaning of life here of course is spiritually alive. All mankind in Adam died spiritually, and Jesus came to die for us, so therefore, he can give spiritual life to us.
John 10:10 says: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy: I came, that they may have life and have it in all its fullness’.
That we might have life, then we must trust Him. In John 11:25-26 says: “I am the resurrection and the life: whoever believes in me, she would live even though he is dead, and everyone who lives and who believe in me, will not die for ever. Do you believe this? ”
Just believe? Why is it so easy? An interpreter to answer this question by saying: The reason why it’s so easy for us to obtain salvation is because He has paid dearly for it.
Believe in Jesus, not just a matter
– Stupid so smart
– Poor to be rich
– ill be healthy
but the important thing is to make the lives of the dead to life
2). So that people who ‘live’, not live for himself.
For I have been dead by the law to the law, that I may live to God. I have been crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live, but no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:19-20)
This era is not only a sinful age, but age was partying with sin. Should have wept to see sin, but even there no shame anymore.
Jesus was willing to experience suffering and death is so terrible for us. It appropriate that we respond to life for yourself? Life of self indulgence? Will we die to ourselves?
3). So that people who ‘live’ it live for Christ.
If the phrase is something that is negative (not live for yourself), then this section is positive. 2 things are complementary. Which one is incomplete without the other.
There are people who do not live for ourselves alone, but to live for:
o The human race.
o Animals (animal lovers group).
o Art / music.
o State / nation.
o Family, etc..
Even if they do not do negative things, but they have not done a positive thing! Christ is not only willing that we no longer live for ourselves, but also that we might live for Him! We would still have to pay attention to family, nation and nation, mankind, etc., but the ultimate goal / our ultimate goal is the Christ!
1 John 3:16 says: By this we know love, that He gave His life for us, so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. Service is the fruit of one’s relationship with Christ. If we say that Jesus is our great example, then we too should have a service life as he did.
Mark 10:45 “For the Son of man came not to be served but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Surely this, based on the offering of a whole life to Christ first. Because, before someone gives himself completely to Christ, then he will never completely give themselves to serve others.
